Picturesque Cave Run Lake, on the Licking River, was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers primarily as a flood control project. The 8,270 acre lake is almost entirely within the boundries of the Daniel Boone National Forest. Most of the acquired land was transferred to the Forest Service for development and management.

Cave Run Lake is known as the Muskie fishing capital of the south and offers an abundance of fishing, boating, skiing and swimming.
