How close is Cave Run Cabins to the Lake?

REALLY CLOSE! Cave Run Cabins is
just a half mile from this lake off KY-801, which means you'll be on the water within minutes of leaving Cave Run Cabins each morning of your stay. We're one of the closest lodging facilities to the lake.

What if I am bringing my boat to the lake? Can I park my trailer by my cabin at Cave Run Cabins?

YES! Cave Run Cabins offers guests
large parking spaces next to each cabin and one for the Suite for our guests who bring their boats with them.

What's so great about Cave Run Lake's fishing?

The lake is known as the "Musky Capital of the South". The state record Musky was caught here at Cave Run Lake, and the next one is out there waiting for YOU to catch! If you know what a Musky is, you know the excitement that can be experienced in fishing for these monster sport fish.

Not to be outdone, other sport fish are found in these waters, too. You have a great opportunity to catch other excellent fish in Cave Run Lake including:

* Largemouth Bass
* Smallmouth Bass
* White Bass
* Bluegill
* Crappie
* Catfish (Channel & Flathead) -
potential for big 40LB to 50LB flatheads exists at Cave Run Lake!

Where do I buy my fishing license? Are there places close to Cave Run Cabins to do this?

YES! There are numerous locations around the lake where you can obtain a Kentucky Fishing License. We'll give you directions to these places upon your arrival. Some are listed on our Links pages.

What types of non-resident fishing licenses are available?

For the 2010 season, you can purchase your annual fishing license after March 1st. Non-residents can purchase 1-day. 7-day, or 15-day fishing licenses. (this information was obtained from KY Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources at (877) 598-2401)

Can I purchase my fishing license before I arrive?

YES! You can call and purchase these licenses over the phone through the KY Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources at
(877) 598-2401 or you can go online and make your purchase at http://fw.ky.gov.

Are there boat ramps or a marina on Cave Run Lake close to Cave Run Cabins?

YES! You'll find great access to the lake from multiple boat ramps and two marinas. Cave Run Cabins is located a half mile from the closest boat ramp, and two miles from the Scott Creek Marina on Cave Run Lake. Longbow Marina is located on the South end of the lake, while Scott Creek Marina is located on the Northeast end of the lake. See our Links page.

Can I rent a boat to use on Cave Run Lake?

YES! Businesses in the area offer boats to rent, including: houseboats, pontoon boats, fishing boats, bass boats, canoes, and kayaks, just in case you don't bring yours along with you. Let us know what your needs are and we'll be glad to help you find just the right vessel for your fishing adventures on Cave Run Lake.

Are there fishing guides in the area of Cave Run Lake?

YES, multiple guides are available. Fishing guides in the Cave Run Lake area offer you helpful tips on catching the Musky. With them, you'll learn the best techniques and places on the lake for catching the monster Musky. OTHER FACTS ABOUT CAVE RUN LAKE

* Cave Run Lake was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1969.
* There are several unique fish species in the Licking River basin including
paddlefish.
* The Minor E. Clark Fish Hatchery is located just across from Cave Run Cabins. It's an amazing sight to see all the water in these ponds glimmering in the sun! Especially from our Suite! It's the second largest hatchery in the state of Kentucky, and one of the largest in the USA.
* The Licking River is a tributary of the Ohio River.
